But the ants have other ideas.　　Phase IV is an incredible full length feature film by Saul Bass who is most acclaimed as a graphic designer who's work can be seen as the opening credits from The Seven Year Itch, Vertigo, West Side Story to Alien, Broadcast News and Casino. Phase IV is a much overlooked film that is very much in the style of The Andromeda Strain. What it perhaps lacks in story, it gains in the photography of the millions of ants.　　索爾·巴斯，美國(guó)動(dòng)畫(huà)片繪制家、美工師、導(dǎo)演，1920年5月8日生于紐約市，少年時(shí)曾經(jīng)在布魯克林學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)繪畫(huà)，畢業(yè)后從事過(guò)十年自由職業(yè)設(shè)計(jì)師的職業(yè)，1946年在洛杉磯創(chuàng)立索爾·巴斯合作公司。他在為一些影片進(jìn)行美術(shù)設(shè)計(jì)時(shí)，猜出心裁地為片頭片尾的演職人員表配上生動(dòng)活潑的動(dòng)畫(huà)人物，這些動(dòng)畫(huà)人物的形態(tài)動(dòng)作巧妙地提示了影片的主題，反映了影片的基調(diào)，從而使單調(diào)乏味的演職人員表和諧地成為了影片不可或缺的一部分，這種大膽的創(chuàng)新豐富了電影的表現(xiàn)形式，廣受觀眾們的喜愛(ài)，其后為不少國(guó)家的影片所沿用。索爾·巴斯設(shè)計(jì)片頭片尾的影片以《卡門(mén)·瓊斯》(1955)、《紅衣主教》(1963)等片最為著名。此外，他還監(jiān)制和導(dǎo)演了很多電視廣告片、動(dòng)畫(huà)片片和紀(jì)錄片，如《敏銳的眼光》(1963)、《第四相》(1974)等。
